Rescue for river runners

The focus of this 2 day course is on the necessary knowledge and skills for all paddlers and those who want to work as junior guides. It is tailored to the specific needs of those working or playing on and around moving water. This very hands-on and practical course is great for those who want to feel more confident while around swiftwater – more confidence = more fun! This course is not NFPA compliant nor will it meet the needs of professional groups such as fire or field services.

Rescue for River Runners Course Outline

Day 1: River Session

  • Recovery of drifting/personless boat into a shore or safe eddy
  • Self rescue skills, including swimming a boat to shore
  • Rescue of a distressed swimmer
  • Pinned and wrapped boat boat recovery techniques
  • Technical problem (swiftwater rescue scenario)
  • Debrief

This dynamic curriculum is specifically designed for river guides, private kayakers, whitewater rafters, riverboarders and river enthusiasts! If you have taken a rescue course before or this will be your first experience with river rescue, this course is ideally suited for boaters of all kinds and all experience levels. You are guaranteed to learn a lot and have a great time!

  • Develop ability to self rescue and rescue others in moving water situations.
